First things first, the infamous Nitty Scott is performing at my annual femme music festival Banjee Boombox at The Sultan Room in Brooklyn! Putting together this festival for the past few years has been a labor of love. I'm excited to invite you all- I'll be giving away a pair of free tickets to BANJEE BOOMBOX to the first person to respond correctly to my trivia questions at the end of this diary. <3 And [DOWNLOAD "NOT LIKE FREAKEM" (DJ LIKWUID EDIT)]
Dear Diary,
speaking of femme-energy, did you know that Mapouka(twerking)originated in West Africa?
Mapouka is for feminine freedom, not for the male gaze. Remember last year at Essence Fest women were expressing joy in a twerk circle. Actually the dance and expression originated from West Africa and the proper name is Mapouka. This is your annual reminder to embrace your feminine energy, fam.
Banjee Boombox is back
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about purpose. Why are we here; what does this journey all mean. Am I doing my part? Am I fulfilling my purpose? What more can I do? Is it okay to just be a vibe? HUMAN BEING > Human Doing. Just BE, and BE with us on August 3, 2024.
Nitty Scott is headlining Banjee Boombox this year. I've been a fan since my emceeing days. My bro bro Clarence Fruster (Southpaw) put together a marvelous event many years ago, where I got to rock with Nitty Scott and many other amazing artists at the time. I feel lucky to produce this festival again this year with Nitty as our feature (and Dai will be back in the house as well to make a special appearance).
Thank you to the Sultan Room for seeing our vision and being an AMAZING partner. To DJ Mary Mac, the icon- thanks for being a positive force. To my partner Chelsey, my sister Yosh and my friend Lauren- thank you all for being the most encouraging tribe. This festival would not be happening if it weren’t for each one of you. Y’all this year we’re going up a every year is more exciting than the year before. 2020 2021 2023 AND the family is growing and expanding- join the fun. Come early to Banjee Blerds Happy Hour with a podcast silent disco by Queue Points, Wikipedia Coding Info by AfroCROWD, Networking by Recess all with a special appearance by the Queen of Banjee Boombox DAI BURGER <3.

Podcast Movement is back this year in DC- I’m super amped to present for a second time! This time with the coven Tink Media Co. (I started working with Tink Media after leaving DE last year.) Podcast Marketing has become such an important part of my audio career- although I'm behind the scenes and not on the mic, I truly enjoy putting the pieces together each time I get to work with a client. This summer, I’ll be presenting a panel on Metadata and Growth. RSVP or stop by if you’re in the DMV!
The Drip: My journey to djing in Atlanta has been a colorful ride. My first gig was at the illustrious Buckhead Art Gallery and Co; from there I’ve been blessed to spin at the Thompson Hotel for the rooftop party The Drip (shout out Lamont Zenor and Satchel). I’m in rotation with 3 other doooope DJs, so if you pop up any weekend it’s sure to be live. Here's a little mash-up that I made at the last porrrty. (DOWNLOAD "Not Like Freakem" (DJ LiKWUiD Edit)).
The Sage: Music & Podcast Mixtape I got to preview season 2 of Ethiopian-American singer-composer Meklit Hadero’s profound podcast "Movement with Meklit Hadero". I’m in awe! I’m such a fan for for Meklit, you probably heard me drop her new record on my guest conductor session with The Harlem Connection Women's History Month episode on WBAI 99.5 FM in NYC. Save the date, her new season drops July 16!
For you next road trip, when you get the aux cord, plug in Gawd, herself!
Listen to both here.
DONATION (Jul 15-Jul 31 2024)
I almost have enough funds to pull of Banjee Boombox this year without going into debt, again. We are rolling out a top tier event with wonderful performances, presentations, celebrations, craft beers and at a beautiful rooftop space in Brooklyn. Further, we are releasing out mixtape and more. This weekend, I’m looking for 10 supporters to pledge $50, $100 or 3 supporters to donate $1000. Here’s the link.
Every amount helps- so I’m grateful for whatever you can pledge. It’s a tax deductible donation and it’s for a worthy cause. Now, I’ve seen some of y’all drop bands in the club- on a regular Friday night- not even your birthday. LOL. So let the Lawwwd USE YOU!!!!
Ha ha.
L is for Love,
Fay
